Chair's Corner - Week of September 5th
Votes determine elections, not polls. This is our season to continue going foward in drive (D) instead of going backwards in reverse(R). As Democrats, we have the core values, diverse ideas that are inclusive for all Americans to benefit all Americans, programs that have moved all of us forward to insure Health Care, Education and opportunities for all Americans to pursue their aspirations to become fully engaged in realizing their American dreams and fundemental respect for each other that allows Democrats to agree to disagree without resorting to shouting matches in an attempt to drown out public discourse on issues that affect all of us. We are Democrats.
Each one of us can make a tremendous difference in these critical midterm elections by asking all of our friends and associates to do the following:
(1) Vote Early
(2) Provide a ride to the polls
(3) Call your civic organizations to action by asking them to call their neighbors and friends to remind them to vote early
(4). Volunteer to go canvassing with a team from your headquarters for all Democratic candidates
(5) Volunteer to participate in phone banking at headquarters
(6) Ask your congregations of worship to vote early
(7) Vote for the Judges, school board candidates, Senator Linda Garrou, Senatorial candidate Elaine Marshall, Representative Earline Parmon, Congressional candidates Billy Kennedy and Mel Watt,  Jerry Herron for Sheriff, Representative Larry Womble, Susan Frye for Clerk of Court, Ted Kaplan, Walter Marshall, Everette Witherspoon, and Stan Dean for County Commissioner.

Votes determine elections, not polls. Let's go get out the votes.
Your Chair,
Fleming El-Amin

A Message from Judge Bob Hunter - I need your help!
We will be kicking off the Judge Bob Hunter for Supreme Court statewide RV tour next week, and to help make sure it's a success, we need your contacts at Universities, Colleges, and Community Colleges across the state! The emails and phone numbers of administrators, faculty, and students would help us get the word out about the tour at all the local stops we will be making.

I will be getting out and meeting with North Carolina residents from the mountains to the beach on the RV tour. The tour will officially begin in the western part of the state at Hendersonville's Apple Parade. Along the way, I'll be stopping by as many universities, colleges, and community colleges as possible.

In my 2006 re-election to the Court of Appeals, I conducted a similar tour and had the pleasure of visiting all 100 counties. I was honored to carry 99 of those 100 counties in that re-election, and I believe getting out and talking with North Carolinians across the state played a large part in generating that level of support.  I look forward once again to traveling throughout the state to speak with old friends and supporters, and to make many new ones along the way.

Thank you to all of you for your kind support so far- with about 40 days until early voting begins, I need it now more than ever. So, if you have some friends at one of North Carolina's great Universities or Colleges, let us know! With your help, we will win this election.
Thanks, and I hope to see you on the road!

A message from Turning North Carolina Blue
From the end of the 2008 election cycle through July, 2010, Democrats and Republicans have experienced net
losses in voter registration while Unaffiliated registrations have risen substantially.

We believe that unregistered citizens of North Carolina are decidedly Democratic in their values and that registering and motivating these voters is critical to sustaining a Party committed not to the interests of the few, but one dedicated to creating opportunities for ALL our citizens to reach their fullest potential and aspirations.  If you are interested in our Voter Registration effort, please contact us or if you would like specific statistics please call FCDP at 724-5941 and we will try to give you that information.

A Message from Leto Copeley in support of Judge Bob Hunter for North Carolina Supreme Court.
In judicial races, most people just aren't very familiar with the candidates.  That's why it is so important to spread the word about those who are best qualified to serve on our courts.   This coming fall, voters will be deciding who should fill a vacancy on the North Carolina Supreme Court.  I am writing to share with you my strong support for Judge Bob Hunter in that race.

Judge Hunter has served on the North Carolina Court of Appeals for 12 years, and during that time he has earned a reputation for fairness and common sense.  Before taking the bench, Judge Hunter practiced law in Marion for 29 years and represented McDowell County in the General Assembly for 18 years.   Unquestionably, Judge Hunter has the depth and breadth of experience we need on our Supreme Court.  He has been endorsed by all the legal organizations making endorsements in his race, including the NC Association of Women Attorneys.  We need Judge Hunter on our Supreme Court..

You can read more about Judge Hunter, and volunteer for his campaign, at http://www.judgebobhunter.org

Gov. Perdue Signs New Law to Fight Medicaid Fraud
Gov. Bev Perdue on Tuesday, August 3rd, signed Senate Bill 675, the Medicaid Anti-Kickback law, part of her proposed package of initiatives to fight fraud, waste and abuse in the state’s Medicaid system. These actions, announced in the spring with Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Lanier Cansler and included in the governor’s budget and legislative package, could potentially save millions by ferreting out unethical providers that bill Medicaid for services their patients did not need.
